"I recently had the pleasure of travelling to Myanmar, known as Burma with Scenic Tours. Our journey began in Yangon and took us all the way up the Irrawaddy River to Mandalay aboard the luxurious Scenic Aura.
We visited villages that seemed to be untouched by time which gave us a wonderful insight to the everyday life seen through eyes of the locals.We travelled by various means of transport - coach, rickshaws and horse & carriage. The country is hot and humid and some of the modes of travel can be a little uncomfortable which makes it even more important that you are booked on a fabulous river ship like Scenic Aura. It was heaven to come back from sightseeing and take a dip in the pool or lounge around deck with a champagne in hand whilst watching the sights go by.
Gold Pagoda's dot the river bank, locals go about their business, the sunrises and sunsets are breathtaking so it really does feel like you are part of a National Geographic documentary.
One of my favourite places was Bagan, it is an ancient city and an achaeological area where more then 2000 Buddist monuments tower over green planes. A fabulous spot to take a hot air balloon rise and to view the sunrise or sunset.
The highlight of my trip was attending the "Morning Alms" with the Monks and Novices, a moving experience unmatched by anything I have experienced before.Majority of Burmese people are Buddist.
Myanmar is a road less travelled and the beauty of the country lies with it's people and fabulous scenery. Don't leave it too long to visit, the secret is out!"
