Our senior consultant Kim Adcock has recently traveled to South America, here's what she had to say -
I was lucky enough to visit South America this year. I visited Chile, Ecuador & Peru. It's hard to pick a highlight as everywhere was so unique and special in it's own right.
If I had to single out a destination, The Galapagos Islands would be my pick. They are part of Ecuador and straddle both sides of the equator, which means the weather is comfortable all year round. The Island Archipelago is a National Park and a Biological Marine Reserve where nature rules the roost. There is no best time to go, each month of the year offers the chance to experience a different part of the circle of life.
I was amazed at the number of species of plants and animals and how diverse the terrain is from island to island - one may look tropical and the next like the dessert surface on mars. The animals have no fear of humans which means your encounters and interactions are like no other. You can swim with the Seals, tap dance with Sea Iguanas, walk with the giant tortoises and marvel at the nesting Blue Footed Boobys.
A cruise is the perfect way to see the islands and there are numerous options available.
To walk in the footsteps of Charles Darwin was a magical experience, the best animal encounter on the the planet and I thoroughly recommend it to all ages, it makes for a great multi-generation family holiday destination.
